Take this Journey Through Space. Star Child offers a great selection of directed activities
From Windows on the Universe  comes Kids In Space. Games and activities at multiple levels.  Also includes good research info. The Planetary Photojournal provides extraordinary photos of the planets, spacecraft and more.  Includes some of the latest pictures taken on Mars.
Send your students to Solar System Tutor.  There are short readings followed by a quiz question. Zoom Astronomy is a wonderful resource with information geared for kids, including classroom activities.
The Space Place Launch Pad has some great info and activities, some of which could work as "task computing" ideas. Check out  educational activities from NASA.  Ready to use with minimal teacher prep time.   Space Link home connects you to an index of other NASA resources.  Students can also visit the NASA kids' page.

Simple Machines

What basic ideas make most machines possible?  Log on to Brain POP and view animated videos to learn about levers and inclined planes. Dirtmeister’s Science Reporters from Scholastic: What are simple machines and where can you find them? Simple machines help you move things more easily, and you can find them everywhere! Investigate the facts, observe, and record.
Learn about six simple machines at Simple Machines Learning Site .  Each of the machine pages contain information and activities for students to use. Here's a site that lets you play, explore and invent.  There are sections about Exploration/tinkering, Make believe/visual thinking, Social play/collaboration, and Puzzle play/problem solving.  There is also information about inventors.
Exploring Leonardo from the Boston Museum of Science has lessons, classroom activities as well as interactive activities. Be sure to read the Letter to Teachers. The Inventor's Toolbox investigates the elements of machines.
Visit Simple Machines Made Simpler for explanations and animations of simple machines.  Also has digital photos of machines they found in their school building.  Fun activity for your class? Machines Make Life Easier has definitions, explanations, short videos of machines at work as well as quick quizzes and extension activities.  A little glitzy, but worth the visit.
Check on the webquest page to find a good choice for your class. Identify simple machines around the house and in the tool shed.  Great  review opportunity as a class! First recognize simple machines and then identify what type of machine it is!
Franklin Institutes "Spotlight" on Simple Machines gives definitions, shows drawings and gives additional resources on the six simple machines. Have your students Explore Simple Machines by trying this webquest designed for fourth graders.

Biomes

Visit the American Field Guide from PBS.  Follow the ecosystems link to connect to video clips of various biomes. At Enchanted Learning find a table of contents to extensive, kid friendly information related to biomes and habitats.
Find a great collection of information on different biomes at What's It Like Where You Live? Find a lesson called "Why are Places Located on Cape Cod That Way" that utilizes satellite imagery to study selected geological features of the Cape.

Body Systems

 

Make your case to the Board of Human Body Systems as to which system is most important by completing this webquest. Be sure and check at United Streaming and Brain Pop for videos about the systems of the body.
Check out the weird and wonderful workings of body systems at the Your Gross and Cool Body. At Biology for Kids find an entire section on the different body systems in kid friendly language.

For forecasts search in section titled "Browse for U.S. and International Forecasts" Visit the weather channel and find local weather for cities in the US or around the globe.
British Broadcast Corp. weather page has maps for world weather forecasts. Use the conversion page to help convert temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit, etc.
Find the current weather for any US location using Weather Underground. At Windguru find wind and precipitation information.
At My Forecast find current weather, extended forecasts and more for locations around the US. Find temperature and rainfall data from cities around the world at World Climate.
Additional current weather options can be found at The Washington Post or Accuweather. At South Travels find weather and climate information for locations in Africa, Asia, etc.
At World Weather Information find official weather observations, forecasts and climate information worldwide. Find more climate information at Geographic.
