Grade One Research

These are some suggested sites for the first graders to use for assisted Internet research

The Internet changes all the time.  Every reasonable attempt  has been made to ensure Web pages are educationally safe and do not contain links to materials that violate Blanchard's acceptable-use policy.  An adult should always check to make sure that the suggested link is still working and that the content has not been changed before sending a student to any Internet site.
Please report any problems with links to the Technology Department.

Plant Life

Enchanted Learning provides lots of links, print outs and such depending on what plants you are interested in learning about.  All at “kid level”

“Meet the Plant Parts”  is a cute interactive quiz that identifies the parts of a salad and how they are all different parts of the plant.  Gives some specific characteristics for each part of the plant.

At Botanical Online find diagrams, activities and such on parts of a plant.  Some info may be more than what first graders need, but you can be selective.

Growing Herbs in the Classroom provides fairly easy directions for growing plants.  If not in the classroom, perhaps some would like to try it at home.

Here is a Unit on Growing Plants that includes a variety of  activities you might wish to try.

Visit the Nature Grid for some quick and easy visual information on the parts of a plant.

This site uses paper airplanes to demonstrate how planes stay in the air and explains how they fly.

National Air and Space Museum has some pretty basic info on how planes fly but certainly need adult help for grade 1 reading.  Also check out the link to “wings at the museum” for some neat photos of planes then and now.

Once again, Enchanted Learning has a great diagram of a plane, suitable for coloring, that also explains about landing gear.
