BOXBOROUGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE The Boxborough School Committee is composed of five Boxborough residents, one or two elected each year to three-year terms of office in the annual Boxborough town election. Three of the positions on the Boxborough School Committee are designated "dual" seats. This means that the members elected to those seats are also automatically members of the Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee, which is composed of nine members: the three Boxborough School Committee members holding dual seats, plus six additional members who are Acton residents, two elected each year to three-year terms in the annual town election in Acton. The six Acton members also constitute the Acton Public School Committee in its entirety. The Boxborough School Committee is responsible for the education of Boxborough students in prekindergarten through grade six, as well as special education students from age three through age twelve. The Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee is responsible for the education of Boxborough and Acton students in grades seven through twelve, as well as special education students from age twelve through age twenty-one. On matters of educational policy for the Town of Boxborough, the entire Boxborough School Committee may be involved. Discussions about the Regional Agreement, for example, may be held by both the Boxborough and Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committees. The Boxborough School Committee is responsible for hiring the Superintendent/Curriculum Director, establishing policies, setting the budget, negotiating employment contracts, and sustaining good community relations for Blanchard Memorial School. The Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee is responsible for hiring the Regional Superintendent, establishing policies, setting the budget, negotiating employment contracts, and sustaining good community responsible for hiring the Regional Superintendent, establishing policies, setting the budget, negotiating employment contracts, and sustaining good community relations for the Acton-Boxborough Regional Schools: R. J. Grey Junior High and the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. |
