Earthtunes | Follow Our Progress | We're
Winners
| Last year, 2006-2007 Blanchard
School kicked off a paper recycling program at the school. The
entire school participated in this yearlong project-based learning
experience. Math, history, science and other subjects were
integrated to engage kids in researching and solving real-world problems.
Working in small groups, 6th graders did research about recycling and shared their findings with the younger grades and throughout the year,
tracking data on how much paper was recycled through spreadsheets and
graphs. |

You
Helped Last Year...
and...
YOU Can Help Again!
By dropping off your recyclable paper
including newspaper, magazines, shopping catalogs, office paper and junk
mail (no cardboard please) at our retriever bin, you will help us fill it faster and increase
our return. |

Here are Pictures Documenting Our
Progress
During the 2006-2007 Academic Year |
|
 |
 |
| With the beginning
of school, comes lots of supplies shipped in cardboard boxes. The
gym was the collection point for all of this cardboard. Amazing how
quickly it piles up! |
|
 |
Thanks to the Boxborough DPW, we
are able to recycle our cardboard through the local transfer
station. On their first trip, they filled a one ton truck with
cardboard! |
Success! |
 |
| |
The DPW will continue to collect
our cardboard every week through the year ! We should be able to save
lots of trash! |
|
Our new paper retriever
recycling bin was delivered recently and is well on its way to being
filled. Working with Abitibi Consolidated, a Canadian based paper
company, we will be able to recycle all of our paper and raise money for
the school in the process. |

|
Pepper, the Paper Retriever and Mr. Joe
Valiante of Abitibi Consolidated, recently visited Blanchard to help kick
off this school wide program. |
|
 |
Sixth grade teams are hard at work collecting,
weighing and bringing recyclable paper out to our dumpster. |
|
 |
The Abitibi Collection truck has been making
regular stops to empty our dumpster. |

Earthtunes

 |
Barbara Herson and Steve
Mayone brought Earthtunes to Blanchard. Earthtunes presents a
musical program with a recycling and environmental theme. |
 |
 |
Program included songs,
dance, puppets and lots of audience participation. Thanks to the PTF
for funding this program. |

Blanchard was recently declared
a winner in the "Schools On Goal" paper recycling contest run
by Abitibi. During the months of January, February and March we
recycled 21,880 pounds of paper. As of the end of March we have
recycled almost 50,000 pounds of paper. Keep up the good work! |
